Heat pumps are good, but ‘good’ won’t trigger the electrified heating revolution.
While heat pumps emerged as a promising flagship innovation the uptake has been slower than hoped. Consumers and businesses with the finances and appetite to switch have done so – in record numbers according to the latest Boiler Upgrade Scheme figures – but they’re not currently reaping maximum reward. Taking heat pumps from 'good' to 'bloody brilliant'
To get serious about the electrification of heat we need to:
- Leverage heat pumps’ smart capabilities to enable a household with a heat pump to flex, helping to balance the grid and lower their bills with cleaner energy
- Scale this flexibility through automation to optimise device performance in every home in every scenario
- Equip installers with clear, evidence-backed insights they can use to help customers assess the feasibility of heat pumps for their homes, and confidently make the switch if it’s right for them
- Continue research into alternative electrified heating for homes unsuited to heat pumps. Exciting options from Heata, as well as solid-state heat pumps, and heat batteries are already emerging
Today’s brilliant might be tomorrow’s good, so let’s keep pushing…
